THE OPPORTUNITY

The Clinical Genomics Laboratory (led by A/Prof Jodie Ingles) aims to find ways to use genomics and genetic counselling to equitably improve care, clarify diagnosis, refine risk information for families with genetic cardiovascular diseases. Cardiovascular diseases affecting children and young people often have underlying genetic causes.

The IMPROVE-SCA NSW study coordinator will assist across all aspects of the study in NSW, but may assist in other aspects of the study nationally. This will include working with the program manager and study team to establish study processes, build key relationships,and drive recruitment.

The NSW study coordinator will play a key role in supporting Ambulance and other services in recruiting eligible families and ensuring the completion of baseline data and surveys by participants. They will work closely to support the program manager, case workers, clinical staff and study investigators.

Further, being located at the central study site, the NSW study coordinator will help to develop and facilitate a national SCA consumer group that will be critical to the success of IMPROVE-SCA.

Salary: Up to $88,800 + 14% superannuation + salary packaging (depending on experience)

Employment Type: 2 year fixed term contract

WHAT YOU WILL DO

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES- Assist across all aspects of the study for NSW based recruitment and data collection.- Support ambulance and other services to recruit eligible NSW families to the SCA registry and ensure completion of their baseline data and surveys by participants, including direct participant contact.- Be responsible for NSW ethics, governance and legal agreements, working closely with other members of the team to ensure NSW is a key recruiting site for the study- Work closely with the IMPROVE-SCA Program Manager, case workers and clinical staff to enable IMPROVE-SCA to be successful.- In collaboration with the IMPROVE-SCA team, proactively implement effective processes and new tools to enhance and streamline project management- Develop, facilitate and manage relationships with an overarching consumer panel that includes stakeholders from across Australia- Identification, engagement and management of relationships with key NSW SCA stakeholders, including consumers, patient advocacy groups, clinicians, ambulance, pathology and others.- Assist with overall operation/project management of the NSW participants in the SCA registry and broader IMPROVE-SCA study, whilst working with other state-based coordinators to ensure a national program of work.- All staff are required to comply with Garvan’s Work Health & Safety (WHS) Policy and work in accordance with the WHS management system at all times.- Other duties as assigned

ABOUT YOU

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED- Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Medicine- Experience in project coordination desired- Experience in medical or clinical research- Experience in dealing with research participants- Exercise excellent judgment - takes a ‘thinking’ approach to their work- Ability to work both independently, but also part of a team- High level of innovativeness and self-motivation
