About You
Serco have the privilege of maintaining some of Melbourne’s most iconic Parks & Gardens. We have an opportunity to join the team as a head Gardener to manage and coordinate the maintenance and development of gardens and other high-profile horticultural assets within the Melbourne CBD. As a key member of Horticulture Team, you will have a strong focus on customer service with exceptional communication skills. You demonstrate a proactive work ethic and remain calm in uncertain or challenging situations. You’re a respectful and professional person who demonstrates exceptional values in everything you do.
The Position
We are seeking a highly motivated Head Gardener to be the trusted custodian of key horticultural assets within the CBD including but not limited to:
Southbank Park
State Library
Town Hall Florals
Burke Street Florals
As a key leader in the Horticulture team you will be responsible for leading a small team to plan, schedule and oversee daily maintenance activities to develop and enhance gardens & horticultural assets on a day-to-day basis. Serco takes pride in managing and maintaining vibrant public recreational spaces on behalf of city councils, promoting enjoyment and participation throughout cities and communities.
To be successful in this position you will require the following skills & attributes:
The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour
Horticultural qualifications (minimum AQF Level 4 or suitable equivalent)
Current Manual Drivers Licence & Chemical Users Certificate or equivalent
Significant experience in maintenance of high-profile horticultural landscapes including florals, perennial borders and garden beds of a similar nature
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team of Qualified and Assistant Gardeners, Apprentices and Trade Assistants
A solution focussed approached with a commitment to continuous improvement
Excellent communication skills - both verbal & written
Track record of delivering value-add impact in a fast-paced environment
Self-motivation, flexibility, commitment & a passion for the industry
