About the Business Unit
The Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP) is a maximum-security facility providing state wide assessment and orientation services for all male prisoners received into the prison system and is located within the North West Metropolitan Area, Department of Justice. MAP consists of the prison, the custody facilities at the County, Supreme and Appeal Courts and holding cells at St Vincent's Hospital for prisoners requiring outpatient medical treatment.
Located across the NWMA are twelve non-custodial locations in Carlton, Broadmeadows, Reservoir, Heidelberg, South Morang, Melton, Sunshine, Werribee, Derrimut and Thomastown, plus the Neighbourhood Justice Centre in Collingwood, and the Court Services Unit at the Melbourne Magistrates Court. There are four youth justice office locations in Fitzroy, Footscray, Preston and Sunshine. There are four custodial locations: maximum security prisons Metropolitan Remand Centre, Dame Phyllis Frost Centre and Melbourne Assessment Prison and the minimum security Judy Lazarus Transition Centre.

About the Role
At the Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP), each Justice Officer role specialises in one of five streams - Property, Records, Human Resources, Finance/Stores and Administration. Over time, and with appropriate support and training, Justice Officers may be rotated between these streams to provide career enhancement opportunities to those staff, and operational flexibility to the prison.
The Justice Officer is an entry-level position to a career in corporate services in the Department's eight Regions, through which the compliance, enforcement and regulatory services are provided to the Victorian community.
In a Justice Service Centre environment, a Justice Officer provides a combination of reception and concierge functions, and administrative and business support services. In the context of a prison, the Justice Officer provides a range of corporate support services (as specified), within the unique operational environment of a correctional facility. In either context, the role requires a strong focus on customer service, teamwork, integrity, accuracy, compliance and timeliness.

**Some of your duties may include**:

- As part of the Records team, and under supervision, provide high quality services and perform all functions pertaining to prisoner records, Individual Management File (IMF) registry and prison archives at MAP.
- Coordinate the preparation of all documentation relating to a prisoner's transfer, classification, release or court appearances and undertake operational processes associated with the prison's bails and discharges.
- Coordinate, operate and maintain the state-wide central prison IMF registry including the creation, movement, storage and disposal of files.
- Coordinate MAP archives including conducting appraisals, sentencing, destruction and retrieval of records in accordance with relevance legislation including, the Public Records Act.

About You
- Well-developed computer literacy.
- Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of the importance of maintaining accurate records and associated legal implications of documents handed down by the courts.

This includes evidence of three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine required by the department (from time to time).

- Your immunisation history statement (available via your myGov account)

Other documentation outside the above will not be accepted as evidence of having received your COVID-19 vaccine doses.
