Canberra, Australia ASIO Full time

**The Organisation**

The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) protects Australia and Australians from threats to their security. In a complex, challenging and changing security environment, our success is built on the imagination and intelligence of our team. ASIO's people are ordinary Australians but they do extraordinary things - they are our most important asset. To be successful in our mission, we need talented people who are highly capable, dedicated, adaptable and resilient.

**The Opportunity**

ASIO is looking for team members to fill various positions in the 24/7 Intelligence Response Centre at the AE4 and AE5 (APS4 and APS5) level to support our critical mission.

ASIO provides advice to the Australian Government to protect Australia, its people and its interests in today's complex and changing world. To be successful in this mission, we need people who are highly capable, dedicated, adaptable and resilient. The Intelligence Response Centre (IRC) is responsible for monitoring, alerting and reporting on rapidly unfolding domestic and international security-related incidents during ASIO's out-of-hours operations.

The role requires officers to undertake shift work. Arrangements cover a mix of day, night, weekend and public holiday shifts. Shift rosters are either four days on and four days off, or five days on and five days off, with only two nights rostered in each shift. Shift work positions attract a shift penalty of 38.95%, with rosters providing a regular pattern of work that allows members to balance their work with other priorities.

**Role Responsibilities**

As an IRC officer you will strive to achieve best practice in assessing and responding to national security incidents in support of ASIO's mission - protecting Australia and Australians from threats to their security.

The role could see you supporting ASIO's operational activity outside business hours; triaging and assessing time sensitive lead information from multiple sources; or responding to time critical threats and security incidents as they arise. You will be engaging internally and externally, and responding quickly to events in a complex security environment. You will have access to a large number of systems and data to allow you to do your role effectively:

- The role of an IRC AE4 (APS4) officer is to conduct initial triage of the stream of incoming intelligence, use a range of methods to identify security events or emerging threats, support ASIO operational activity and to communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
- The role of an IRC AE5 (APS5) officer is to assess incoming intelligence, assess the implications and actions required in relation to security events or emerging threats, support ASIO operational activity, manage a number of other investigative and analytical duties and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.

You will be part of a team delivering high quality intelligence outcomes to internal and external clients. You will build relationships with external partners, including the Department of Home Affairs, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Australian Federal Police, as well as a range of other government agencies.

**Key attributes**
- The ability to manage competing priorities and progress assigned work both individually and as part of a team.
- Commitment to achieving high quality outcomes in a high-volume dynamic and high tempo environment.
- Ability to work as part of a collaborative team.
- Good judgement and strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to learn and build proficiency across different IT systems and software platforms.

Analytical, research, and liaison skills are desirable, however training will be provided.

**Benefits**

ASIO provides a number of benefits to its staff including:

- A competitive salary, including a Weighted Average Shift Penalty for shift workers of 38.95% and a 7.5 per cent service allowance for maintaining a Top Secret security clearance at the highest level.
- Employer superannuation contributions of 15.4 per cent.
- A variety of leave options, including five weeks annual leave.
- Seven staff-led diversity and inclusion networks.
- Study assistance, including financial support and study leave for tertiary education.
- Access to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

**Eligibility**

To be eligible for the role, you must be:

- An Australian citizen.
- Assessed as suitable to hold and maintain a Top Secret security clearance at the highest level.

**Preferred location**

The location for these positions is Canberra.

**How to apply**
- A written pitch of up to 2 pages showcasing your skills, knowledge and experience and what you will bring to the role at the AE4 or AE5 levels.
