**Position overview**
The Media Adviser is a Corporate Services role, providing specialised media support to advance the Court’s interests and protect the Court from risk through timely and efficient management of media enquiries. The Corporate Services media team provides media support for the Federal Court of Australia, the National Native Title Tribunal, the Australian Competition Tribunal, the Copyright Tribunal of Australia, and the Defence Force Discipline Appeals Tribunal.
**Duties**
- Respond to daily media enquiries across different channels in a prompt and timely manner.
- Liaise with executive leadership and Court staff (including judges and associates) to manage media enquiries and/or sensitive issues.
- Monitor and distribute media statements and Court-related updates according to team procedure.
- Monitor daily media coverage to identify and manage potential opportunities or emerging issues and raise them with the Assistant Director, Media and Information.
- Assist in producing a range of written material, including media releases, statements and messages that can be used across various channels as required.
- Perform research and analysis into complex or escalated issues to support short and longer-term planning.
- Contribute to the development of policies, systems and processes to ensure the team can meet expectations of service, quality, and timeliness.
- Assist the Media Committee as required.
- May be required to travel interstate.
**Professional qualifications and experience**
- Qualifications - A degree or diploma of an Australian educational institution, or a comparable overseas qualification, in public relations, communications or journalism.
- Experience - Previous experience in a role aligned with communications, media, public relations or community engagement. Sound judgment and discretion during events that may be critical and urgent in nature.
- Written Communication - Excellent written and oral communication skills including demonstrated ability to research, write and edit materials for publication, such as media releases, opinion pieces, speeches, letters to the editor, and published articles.
- Verbal Communication - Builds effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and confidently argues complex concepts, negotiating with tact and diplomacy on difficult issues.
- Well-developed management and organisational skills, including the ability to:
- Manage multiple projects and monitor workflows and standards to meet tight deadlines.
- Work autonomously and demonstrate resilience and composure in a high-pressure environment, and ability to exercise discretion on sensitive matters.
