Carina Heights, Australia Support For Everyone Full time

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and experienced Disability Support Worker to provide personalised support for children with complex disabilities, such as rare genetic disorders involving low muscle tone, intellectual disabilities, seizures, and mobility/communication challenges. The role initially focuses on supporting a young girl who enjoys musical activities, bubbles, parks, and sensory play, in a family home environment.

This casual position emphasizes helping achieve NDIS goals like building strength, daily living skills, and community participation. Shifts are flexible but may include mornings (e.g., 6:30am-8:30am for routines), afternoons/evenings (3-5 hours for activities), weekends (e.g., 6 hours every second Saturday for respite), and school holidays. You'll collaborate with family and professionals, with training provided. As we expand our client base, this role may grow to include supporting additional children with similar needs.

This opportunity is perfect for someone passionate about child development, with a focus on engaging, therapeutic interactions in a supportive setting.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist with daily living tasks, including bathing, toileting, dressing, feeding (special diets), and medication administration (under supervision).
- Support mobility and transfers using assistive technology (e.g., strollers, car seats, walkers; manual handling training provided).
- Monitor for health concerns like seizures and follow emergency protocols (full training given).
- Facilitate skill-building activities, such as exercises for strength/mobility, sensory play, or community outings (e.g., parks).
- Accompany to appointments (e.g., therapy, medical) and promote independence/social interaction.
- Help with care-related household tasks (e.g., meal prep, laundry if needed during shifts).
- Implement therapy plans from professionals (e.g., OT, physio) and track progress.
- Manage behaviors positively (e.g., frustration from communication barriers).
- Adapt to variable needs (e.g., fatigue days) while ensuring safety.
- Collaborate with family, therapists, and NDIS coordinators.

**Requirements**:

- Certificate III or IV in Individual Support (Disability) or equivalent (essential).
- Minimum 1-2 years' experience as a Disability Support Worker, preferably with children having complex needs (e.g., seizures, hypotonia, intellectual disabilities).
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check, Blue Card (Working with Children Check), and First Aid/CPR certification (essential).
- Experience with seizure management, manual handling, and assistive technology highly desirable.
- Reliable transport and valid driver's license (for outings and family support).
- Strong communication skills, patience, and ability to interpret non-verbal cues.
- Flexibility for casual shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- COVID-19 vaccination and willingness to follow health protocols.
- References from previous disability support roles.

**Benefits**:

- Flexible hours to suit your schedule (e.g., 10-20 hours/week initially, with potential for more as client base expands).
- NDIS-funded role with competitive pay and potential travel reimbursements.
- Opportunity to make a meaningful impact on children's development and family wellbeing.
- Ongoing training from allied health professionals.
