Gippsland Southern Health Service (GSHS) is a major provider of healthcare in the South Gippsland Shire. GSHS offers a broad range of services that meet the needs of a diverse and sparsely populated area. With two main acute facilities based at Leongatha and Korumburra, GSHS offers a broad range of specialist, general, acute, subacute, ambulatory, residential aged care and community services.**About the Role**
GSHS is seeking suitably qualified and skilled person to undertake the role of Aboriginal Liaison Officer. The Aboriginal Liaison Officer is a critical role to the organisation and community who will be responsiblefor establishing trust and building relationships between health service staff and First Nations consumers across South Gippsland.- This position will act as an advocate for First Nations people and their families on issues that relate to their health concerns and link them to appropriate services improving health outcomes. They will also act as a link between medical staff, and their families creating a safe and supportive environment.- The position will also provide education to Clinical Staff on Aboriginal culturally sensitive health services. This position is advertised in partnership with South Gippsland Hospital and will support both health services.**About You**
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander or have a demonstrated clear, strong, and collaborative relationship with local ATSI communities
- Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care, Health Work, Community Development (or similar) through an accredited education provider.
- Knowledge and understanding of Victorian and local First Nations culture and society
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain communication with Aboriginal communities, GSHS staff, agencies and government departments.
- Capability to capture and report statistical data and information, in particular to patient statistics
- An understanding of First Nations health issues at a local and state level.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and awareness of ‘Privacy Act’.
- Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Demonstrated time management skills including ability to work to deadlines.
- Demonstrated capacity of initiative and to work unsupervised.
- Staff have access to supportive staff mentoring, education and development programs. Salary Packaging is available for all staff.
