About the role
The role of the Infectious Diseases Staff Specialist is to provide high quality clinical and non-clinical services to benefit the patients of the West Moreton Hospital and Health Service in accordance with the standards of the speciality, the ethics of the profession and in accordance with WMHHS and Queensland Health policies. This includes research as well as teaching the health professionals of the future.
About you
Clinical Service Provision
- Provide safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable patient-centred specialist clinical services to patients with or at risk of infectious diseases.
- Keep clinicians aware of important and significant microbiology results and offer advice on the management of patients with infections.
- Be available for inpatient infectious diseases consultations and conduct outpatient clinics including management of viral hepatitis, HIV and antibiotic allergy.
- Provide Health service wide advice on appropriate use of antimicrobials.
- Be responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of community intravenous antibiotics through community health services.

Antimicrobial Stewardship
- A core activity of the position is ongoing management of antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) at West Moreton Hospital and Health Service. This must satisfy the requirements of the Australian Commission of Safety and Quality in Healthcare (ACSQHC) standard outlined in the document, ' Antimicrobial Stewardship in Australian Hospitals 2017' and subsequent revisions.
- The ID physician will be the clinical lead of the AMS team and work with a pharmacist and the ID registrar to maintain an AMS programme.
- The ID physician will collaborate with clinical directors and hospital staff across different clinical divisions.
- Education of antimicrobial prescribers on the AMS programme and appropriate antimicrobial prescribing practices and feedback to prescribers on the performance of the AMS programme is expected.
- The ID physician will co-ordinate auditing of the AMS programme to demonstrate clinical and financial outcomes.

ID Physician
- Provide leadership in infection prevention and staff health issues.

Research and Education
- Participate in clinical trials and research.
- Organise a self-directed personal educational and professional development programme.
- Contribute to, foster and encourage staff learning, education and development.
- Provide education to other members of the health team including Registrars, Resident Medical Officers, Medical Students and Nursing Staff.
- Contribute to Medical Undergraduate teaching as required.

**Mandatory Requirements**:

- Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
- Vaccinated against COVID-19 as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO.12/21and the Queensland Health Human Resources Policy B70.
