**The Role**
As First Assistant Secretary, Improving Student Outcomes, Schools Group you will be a key member of the department’s senior leadership team, supporting the Executive in the provision of advice to Government, and playing a key role in setting the strategic direction for the organisation. You will help build our organisation capability by providing intellectual leadership and through your development of others.
Strategic policy, program delivery and stakeholder engagement are a key focus of this role, and you will oversee national policy and programs for First Nations students as well as student participation, engagement and wellbeing for learning, students with disability and regional, rural and remote initiatives.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
In this role, you will be responsible for:

- Leading the Improving Student Outcomes Division to develop and provide policy advice and program and project management services
- Supporting the negotiation and implementation of agreements, including the Better and Fairer Schools Agreement
- Supporting the implementation of priority reforms, including the National Agreement on Closing the Gap
- Overseeing high quality strategic policy initiatives for First Nations Teacher Strategy and First Nations Education Policy
- Leading the department’s reform action in response to the Disability Royal Commission
- Delivering the 2025 Review of the Disability Standards for Education.
