The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Project Officer to play a critical role in the Statewide Systems and Projects Unit.
About the business unit
Sitting within the Corrections and Justice Services, Corrections Victoria operates Victoria's adult corrections system. It ensures prisoners are safely and securely contained and aims to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.
The Sentence Management Division (SMD), of which State-wide Systems and Projects is a unit, is responsible for identifying prisoners' needs and matching them to correctional resources with the objective of placing and managing prisoners appropriately. It is a process of balancing security, management and needs of the prisoners, the community need for protection and efficient and effective operation of the correctional system. The Sentence Management Division is responsible for guiding the journey of offenders across the period of their sentence.
The State-wide Systems and Projects team is responsible for the management, coordination and oversight of systems and projects integral to the effective management of the adult correctional system and plays a key role in building the strategic capability of Corrections Victoria by leading the development and delivery of projects and initiatives of strategic relevance to the adult correctional system.
About the role
The Project Officer is responsible for performing a range of project management functions related to the delivery of operational projects and initiatives of strategic relevance to the adult correctional system, including the Separation Reform Project.
**Some of your duties will include**:
- Contribute to the development and delivery of new initiatives and projects, including preparation of project documentation, regular status updates, and maintaining risk and issues registers.
- Assist in identifying, analysing and responding to emerging strategic issues for the Victorian correctional system, including analysis and interpretation of statistics and conducting environmental scans of other jurisdictions.
- Prepare correspondence, briefing papers and reports on complex issues for Corrections Victoria Executive or steering committees at the direction of the General Manager or Project Manager, Statewide Systems and Projects.
- Develop and maintain relationships with staff and other key stakeholders both within and outside Corrections Victoria to develop a shared commitment to the delivery of initiatives and projects.

About you
**To be successful in this role, you will have**:
- An understanding, appreciation and awareness of the key issues impacting Corrections Victoria, particularly within legislative, social, political and industrial frameworks.
- An understanding of the department's Project Management Excellence (PME) Framework or other project management framework.
