The Museum has an exciting opportunity for a professional to join the Collection Engagement Business Unit, providing quality training and support to Museum staff in the use and development of its collection information systems.
The Collection Engagement Business Unit focuses on the current and future processes supporting engagement with the Museum’s collections, including building the Museum’s capacity to manage, store and preserve digital collection material.
The Collection Engagement Business Unit encompasses the diverse range of activities which make the Museum’s collections discoverable. These include collection documentation, collection imaging, digitisation and digital preservation, supporting and developing the Museum’s Collection Management System (EMu) and Digital Asset Management System (Piction), managing associated IP rights, managing the Library and Archive collections and providing public access to the collection - both online and on-site in the Museum’s collection stores The Business Unit also includes a First Nations Collections section, which is responsible for repatriation, facilitating First Nations community access to collections, and enhancing the knowledge of the First Nations collections held by the Museum.
The Collection Engagement Business Unit works closely with the Curatorial team, who set the intellectual framework for collection development, and the Collection Care and Management team who are responsible for collection conservation, storage, and related logistics.
**Position Duties**
This position plays a critical role in the coordination and operation of the Museum’s Collection Systems, particularly through providing system user support and develop, maintain and deliver training programs for Axiell EMu and Piction. You will equip Museum staffs with skills in both general use and specific business processes.You will also develop and maintain associated training documentation including manuals and data entry guidelines.
You will work with internal stakeholders to enhance the systems to improve business processes and efficiencies. You will also assist with data cleaning and work associated with data migration, and the publication of records onto the Museum’s online catalogue, Collection Explorer.
To be successful in this role you will have experience in the administration of collection management systems, in particular Axiell Emu and Piction. You will be adaptable and responsive to user needs when providing training and support, being able to readily distill information and communicate effectively to a wide range of users with varying levels of system proficiency.
You will preferably have a background in or good understanding of collection management practices to help identify potential system improvements and workflows. You will also have excellent problem-solving and trouble-shooting abilities.
**Selection Criteria**
- Well-developed knowledge of museum collection business processes, and high-level experience in the use and administration of related database and reporting technologies.
- Initiative in the workplace and an ability to work effectively and collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams,
- Ability to support staff training related to collection information systems, and to problem solve related staff queries.
- Ability to manage competing and changing priorities within a team environment and the ability to complete a variety of tasks within agreed deadlines
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills appropriate for effectively communicating technical issues to non-technical staff, and the ability to develop and deliver training programs to staff.
- Problem solving and high-level analytical skills as they relate to problems experienced by business systems users.
- Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of Workplace Diversity and Equity, Workplace Relations and commitment to relevant legal and regulatory responsibilities, including Workplace Health and Safety.
