**Behaviour Support Practitioner -**_**would suit a Suitable/Core Behaviour Support Practitioner looking for robust supervision opportunities and progression through the PBS Capability Framework**_
Are you ready for an exciting new opportunity? United Disability Care is seeking a talented individual to join our small but growing Behaviour Support team covering the Gold Coast / Far North NSW Coast area. This position is a maternity leave cover for 12 months with a balanced caseload of between 14-16 participants already engaged with a Positive Behaviour Support Plan in place.
The primary role of the Behaviour Support Practitioner is to work alongside people with a disability (PWD) and their supporters to improve the individual’s overall quality of life while reducing current risks of harm.
The Behaviour Support Practitioner uses evidence-based data collection, assessments, and a Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA) to inform the strategies within a Positive Behaviour Support Plan (PBSP). These strategies are implemented across people, teams, and environments to ensure a holistic approach is taken to keeping people safe and improving lives for our participants and those around them.
**What does a day in this role look like?**
- Morning -_ Heading out the door to go see one of your PWD to check how well their PBS strategies are working for them and their team since you implemented them a few weeks ago. You’re keen to hear your participant’s experience on what they’re finding helpful and what other things might need more support or time.
- Midday -_ Back at the computer to write some notes about your appointment, and then take some time to look at your outstanding competencies within the PBS Capability Framework, using feedback and information from your Supervisor to gather your evidence portfolio.
- Afternoon -_ Hopping into an online team meeting for one of your participant’s support teams who you’ve been working with for a while and want to ask some questions about a new safety risk they’ve raised with you around what the person is doing.
- Morning -_ Opening your participant’s draft FBA and getting stuck into a few months’ worth of data to get a better understanding of when, how, and why that certain behaviour tends to happen.
- Midday -_ Joining a Stakeholder’s Meeting to provide some updates on your work, hear what others are working on with your participant, and then swapping ideas on tackling some barriers together. You make sure to keep inviting the PWD in question to contribute their ideas and thoughts on what they think will be helpful.
**What skills and experience do you need?**
- Diploma or Bachelor Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Behavioural Sciences, Education or other relevant allied health qualification (or in the process of completing)
- AND/OR_
2+ years of experience within the Health, Disability or Community Sector/s
- Ability to obtain and maintain a current Driver’s License, Blue Card, NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, evidence of right to work in Australia, and a criminal history check
- Access to a consistently available insured vehicle to conduct appointments to your PWD
- Suitable Behaviour Support Practitioner Level (or knowledge and skills necessary to acquire this)
- Demonstrated capacity to analyse and interpret data and reports, and use analysis to prepare reports which may include FBAs, Behavioural Protocols, Risk Assessments, Support or Care Plans, or PBSPs
- Demonstrated experience and capability to develop and sustain positive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders from different backgrounds and experiences
- Experience in being able to analyse, problem-solve, and provide feedback or ideas using critical-thinking in response to incidents
- Proven ability to exercise sound judgement and decision-making based on evidence
**What personal qualities are we looking for?**
We are looking for that person who is new to the role - maybe you want to be a Behaviour Support Practitioner but not sure how to enter this field, or maybe you’re newer to the disability space and want to grow your skills and experience in a small, supportive team.
The following attributes are recognised as being beneficial in carrying out this role successfully:
- Ability to be flexible
- Strong capacity for autonomy
- Emotional intelligence and resilience
- Ability to independently manage tasks and deadlines through organisation and time-management skills
- Continued desire for knowledge and skill improvement
- Commitment to regularly work out of the Robina office to see the team in person
- Genuinely and sincerely wanting to make a positive difference in people’s lives
**Why work with us?**
You’d be joining a close knit, fun, and collaborative culture of people all determined to make a positive impact to the lives of the people we support.
We work with a wide range of PWD, a majority of which tend to be people with an Intellectual Impairment, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Acquired Brain I
