We are currently seeking an **Investment Analyst **to join our Manager Research team in Melbourne or Sydney on a permanent, Full-Time basis.
The role of the Investment Analyst is to provide a high-level of managed fund product research to financial advisers and other subscribers.
The Investment Analyst will work across a range of asset classes including fixed income, global equities, alternatives, Australian equities, property and multi asset sectors. An understanding of private markets and property will be highly regarded but not mandatory.
**Responsibilities**:
- Analyse and conduct research on funds and products across assigned sectors;
- Coordinate managers and other analysts for meetings. Prepare for and undertake interviews with fund managers, collecting and synthesizing written information, assessing the merits of products and writing four to seven-page research reports (covering an overall opinion, people and resources, investment style and objectives, research approach, portfolio construction, and risk management). The process may at times be conducted in conjunction with other Lonsec analysts and where a sector ‘lead’ responsibility is assigned, this role is expected to lead and enhance the research process in the area;
- Preparation of fund updates, viewpoints, and fund profiles for existing trusts and review of the investment outlook for various sectors;
- Regular communication with advisers to address specific queries and needs;
- Prepare and deliver research findings and presentations for professional development (PD) days, new client pitches and industry conferences;
- Contribute to the integrity and evolution of the research process - participate in peer review and model portfolio discussions, and provide ideas and input into process development;
**Skills and Experience**:
- Previous experience (3 yrs+) working with a research house, fund manager or corporate, with an emphasis on financial analysis and industry knowledge specific to your sector.
- Manager research experience across asset classes is desired, particularly within global and Australian equities.
- Research skills (qualitative) - a strong ability to synthesize and distil financial information down to key concepts and convey this in written form efficiently, clearly and concisely. Strong attention to detail is essential.
- Strong organizational and time management skills - meet deadlines and coordinate and juggle various tasks at a time (and reprioritise as new tasks come to hand)
- A strong and demonstrable understanding of investment markets and asset classes
- Interviewing / communication skills - ability to undertake in-depth interviewing in a rigorous and penetrating yet personable and professional fashion. Ability to communicate confidently and question articulately, and be confident in dealing with senior management within external organizations.
- Strong communication and relationship management skills to enable liaising with external clients with the ability to effectively handle queries and concerns
- Ability to work as part of a close-knit team as well as autonomously whilst taking responsibility for meeting personal objectives
- Research skills (quantitative) - ability to manipulate and analyse data
- Expertise in Microsoft Excel (spreadsheets) and a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat
- A demonstrable interest in finance and investment.
**Essential qualifications**:
- An undergraduate degree in a business or mathematical based discipline (science or engineering) e.g. BComm, BBus, BA, BEc, BSc, BApSci
- Plus one of the following; Honours Year, Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA), CFA level 1, Post Graduate Diploma in Finance / Management / Commerce / Financial Planning, Master of Business Administration / Economics / Commerce / Applied Finance
