**The Role**
The Assistant Director Engagement will lead a newly established team created in the ADF Cadets Directorate within Joint Support Services Division.

The role is responsible for providing high-quality responses to ministerial requests, strategic communication advice and support, through a small embedded team in the respective Service cadet headquarters. Quality stakeholder engagement is a fundamental requirement of the role.

The applicant will require excellent team leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise, collaborate, build and maintain productive relationships within the ADF Cadets Directorate, Joint Support Services Division and the respective Service cadet organisations. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.

The successful applicant will be adept at providing strategic advice to senior management and stakeholders as well as leading and assuming responsibility for complex work that may have strategic, political or reputational significance.

**About our Team**
Joint Support Services Division (JSSD) provides a range of capabilities and support services including Gender, Peace and Security; Youth Policy, Programs and Training; Youth Protection and Reporting; ADF Sports; Military Legal Service; and Reserve and Employer Support to contribute to Defence capability and preparedness.

The ADF Cadets Directorate within Joint Support Services Division provides complementary supporting and enabling functions, and seeks to achieve standardisation across the three ADF cadet programs, where practicable, for policy, administration and youth protection. This is a collaborative approach between the respective ADF cadet programs administered by Navy, Army and Air Force. It does not command the cadet organisations - they are commanded, resourced and administered by their respective Services.
- Lead a team; creating and setting a positive work attitudes and an inclusive work culture.
- Set key strategic goals and priorities and contribute to the development of an ADF Cadets Strategy.
- Lead, coordinate and draft responses to Government and ministerial correspondence, such as advice for Ministers and Senate Estimates.
- Review, interpret and respond to time-critical requests for information for consolidated responses on ADF cadet issues.
- Deliver high-quality internal and external communication strategies in support of ADF Cadet objectives, provide oversight of the production of targeted communication products including events, speeches, social media and media materials, and contribute to Defence publications and reports.
- Identify and provide strategic advice on communication and media risks and opportunities.
- Provide strategic coordination and management of the ADF Cadets Patron, develop event briefings and visit programs.
- Provide strategic level advice to the Director ADF Cadets, and through them to the Deputy and Head ADF Cadets as required.
- Build and sustain effective relationships with all relevant stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively and across the Cadet organisations to deliver ‘One Cadet’ outcomes.
- Interpret and comply with legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks.
