Regional Officer

**About us**

The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.

**About the role**

The Regional Officer will conduct a range of compliance monitoring activities and inspections as authorised under the Australian Consumer Law and Fair Trading Act, and other legislation administered by CAV.

Also, the Regional Officer will carry out residential tenancy investigations including rental assessments and non-urgent repairs as delegated under the Residential Tenancies Act.

Further the Regional Officer will perform front line dispute resolution, provide business and community education and lead or coordinate CAV campaign initiatives.

The Regional Officer role in the West Area is based either from the Werribee office or Geelong office and will outreach to other locations across the West Area.

The work location for this position is Werribee or Geelong office with hybrid work arrangements available.

**Key accountabilities include**
- Participate in and contribute to aspects of an ongoing compliance program, including local planning and development of compliance activities and their implementation.
- Be prepared to be appointed as an Inspector under the Australian Consumer Law & Fair-Trading Act and be delegated as an Inspector under the Residential Tenancies Act.
- Using standardised tools, carry out routine, straightforward and sometimes more complex inspections as authorised under the Australian Consumer Law & Fair-Trading Act and the Residential Tenancies Act. This can include report preparation, drafting written correspondence, obtaining evidence for use in legal proceedings as directed by CAV, as well as issuing infringement notices.
- Under general direction, deliver business and consumer education sessions consistent with CAV program priorities and regional needs.

**About you**

To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate:

- Experience in inspection operations including the planning, development and delivery of outreach activities based on business plans and policies.
- Demonstrated experience in the preparation of reports and the drafting of correspondence that provides clear and purposeful communication.
- Ability to develop and maintain productive relations with internal and external key stakeholders.
- A Certificate IV in Government Investigations or equivalent qualification is desirable or be prepared to attain the qualification soon after job commencement.

**Other requirements**
- Tertiary qualifications in commerce, business, law or other related fields are desirable.
