**About the Business**
At the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, we are connecting South Australia to keep our State moving. We are responsible for delivering a multi-billion-dollar pipeline of transformative transport and social infrastructure projects, operating and maintaining thousands of kilometres of roads and managing our city’s public transport network.

Our work encompasses every part of our State; from our cities to our regions, connecting and strengthening community. We value diversity and inclusion and foster an environment of collaboration, flexibility and support for our people.

Due to the breadth of the Department’s portfolio, our team has the opportunity to shape a sustainable future and influence the planning, design and procurement of some of South Australia’s largest ever transport and infrastructure projects.

Members of the Environment team provide technical and policy related expert advice and information to the Department and State Government, for the provision of specialist environment management services including Environment, Aboriginal Heritage and Contamination. The team provides an important contribution to the development and credibility of the Department’s technical/professional reputation and the sustainability of essential environmental-related in-house expertise, capability and corporate knowledge. As well as the formation of specifications and standards in line with business needs, legislative compliance and risk management.

Members of the team are instrumental in the Environment and Heritage Impact Assessment (EHIA) process, which allows for the orderly and systematic evaluation of a project or program, together with its alternatives and objectives, and its impacts on environment and heritage aspects
- including the mitigation hierarchy of avoidance, minimisation, rehabilitation/restoration and offset of those impacts. The team provides expert advice throughout the project lifecycle to all Department transport (road, rail, marine) & social infrastructure projects and property portfolios, examples include the River Torrens to Darlington project, Northern Water, Fleurieu Connections, Tram Grade Separation Projects, Adelaide Aquatic Centre and Granite Island Causeway.
