The Science Support Manager is a senior level position which will oversee the entire lifecycle of science project management process for a range of Data61 internally supported and externally funded programs. This includes the Next Generation Graduates Program, Univeristy Parternships, internal science support (e.g. internships, fellowships), new science project planning and initiation, and supporting strategy development and implementation.
The Next Generation Graduates Program will fund national scholarships to attract and train the next generation of artificial intelligence and emerging technology specialists. Through the Program, the Australian Government aims to address top-end talent shortages under three streams - Artificial Intelligence, Quantum and Emerging Technologies. The Science Support Manager will responsible for development, implementation and roll out of the Program and unsuring its ongoing and effective operation.
The Science Support Manager, in collaboration with Data61 Science Director, will implement science initiatives which promote Data61 impact. Providing forecasting and analysis that will support the development of major initiatives.
The Science Support Manager will oversee a team of highly-skilled staff across the Student Programs function. Working with the Australian university sector to establish major collaborations to tackle key research and development challenges facing Australia
The role is responsible for team leadership, building a high-performance team culture, guiding professional development and skills adoption, and managing projects in line with best practice techniques and alignment to Data61 and CSIRO policy and procedures.
**Your duties will include**:
- Leadership of the Next Generation program including oversight of strategic and operational plans, to ensure delivery of the Program’s objectives
- Leadership across the University Partnership program of work and high-level projects in support of Data61 Science Director
- Provide leadership to establish a diverse and high performing project team, ensuring consistent best practices, tools and resources are adopted by all team members.
- Take responsibility for managing staff performance and career development, providing coaching and support to enable the team to do deliver high quality work.
- Manage complex projects using methodologies appropriate to the project and the context.
- Identify and manage project risks and issues, and use required judgement to prioritise and escalate matters that may impact delivery.
- Communicate openly, effectively and respectfully with all staff, clients and suppliers in the interests of good business practice, collaboration and enhancement of CSIRO’s reputation.
- Work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary, often regionally dispersed research team, and business unit to carry out tasks in support of CSIRO’s objectives.
- Adhere to the spirit and practice of CSIRO’s Code of Conduct, Health, Safety and Environment procedures and policy, Diversity initiatives and Making Safety Personal goals.

**Salary**: AU$121,455 to AU$142,321 pa + up to 15.4% superannuation
