**Role**:

- Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.
- Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.
- Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.
- Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.
- Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.

**Responsibilities**:
**Strategic**:

- Contribute to the overall leadership of the school. Strategically plan and implement a student leadership development program, alongside authentic leadership opportunities within and beyond the Mac.Robertson Girls' High School community;
- Lead and implements a leadership development program for students, including an induction program for new leaders, which supports student learning, wellbeing and belonging;
- Coordinate leadership activities across the school in collaboration with key stakeholders, including, but not limited to, the Assistant Principal - Operations, Sub-school and House Leaders, to create a coherent yearly calendar and ensure effective co-operation;
- Lead students as the teacher in charge of the Student Representative Council (SRC) to ensure its effective operation and provides opportunities for students at all levels to be involved in decision-making within the school;

**Development of others**:

- Support and mentor staff leading co-curricular programs
- Develop the leadership capacity of staff in co-curricular positions of leadership
- Develop leadership capacity of student leaders

**Organisational**:

- Oversees the running of all student-led co-curricular clubs and encourages the involvement of other staff;
- Produces the annual Co-Curricular Handbook;
- Works in collaboration with the Leading Teacher: Community Partnerships to identify opportunities beyond the immediate school environment for Leadership participation and development, for example: with the Alumni - The Palladians, and within other community partnerships;
- Works in collaboration with the school's Communications team to publicise the events and achievement of Student Leaders and co-curricular groups within the school
