**About the role**:
The Commercial and Governance Team provides commercial advice on contracts or other agreements, governance, general compliance and administrative policy matters, coordinates legal advice from Crown Solicitors office (CSO), and delivers the Department’s risk management, performance reporting, and Enterprise Planning functions.

As the Principal Adviser, Commercial and Governance you will provide advice and oversight across legal, commercial, governance, and compliance matters to support the Department’s strategic objectives and enterprise-wide performance.

More specifically, you will:

- Provide high-level advice to the Chief Executive, Executive Leadership, and senior stakeholders on legislation, policy, commercial agreements, and governance frameworks.
- Oversee the Department’s legal services function, including engagement with the Crown Solicitor’s Office and external legal providers.
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of governance, compliance, and process frameworks.
- Support major reviews and reforms that enhance the Department’s strategic risk management and corporate governance.
- Mentor and guide staff and leaders across the Department on complex legal, policy, and governance matters to build internal capability and support informed decision-making.

**Key Competencies**:
To succeed in this role, you will be a trusted advise, able to demonstrate:

- Significant experience in commercial and contractual matters, including grants, KPIs, and contract variations.
- Demonstrated success in developing and embedding governance frameworks and compliance systems.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and engage at all levels.
- High-level judgement, discretion, and integrity in managing sensitive and high-impact issues.

**Remuneration**:
Competitive salary will be offered as $121,107 to $125, 679 pa plus superannuation

**Qualifications**:

- **Essential**: Tertiary qualifications, or related experience, in relevant discipline.
- **Desirable**: Nil

**Special Conditions**:

- This position will be offered as a full-time, 12-month contract position,
- A Satisfactory Department of Human Services Criminal History Check or National Police Check (NPC) will be required prior to employment.
