**Who we are**
Australia’s natural and cultural heritage is unique. Our land and seascapes are distinctive, home to plants and animals found nowhere else in the world, and to some of the oldest living cultures on earth. These environments and cultures are an essential part of our national identity, and visitors travel from across the country and the world to experience them. The Director of National Parks (the Director) is responsible for six national parks, the Australian National Botanic Gardens, 58 Australian Marine Parks and the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Marine Reserve established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Parks Australia is the federal park agency that supports the Director, and they are a division of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the Department). We work to showcase these natural and cultural wonders to the world, demonstrating to all why these places are so special, and inspiring communities to become more invested in their care and future.

Beyond the spinifex sand plains of arid central Australia lies Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, one of three national parks leased by their Aboriginal owners to the Director of National Parks, and jointly managed by Traditional Owners and Parks Australia. Parks Australia assists with ongoing management of the park’s natural and cultural heritage. This branch also manages a rich and fascinating range of island ecosystems and habitats, including oceanic Pulu Keeling, Norfolk and Christmas Island National Parks.

**The Job**
This role provides the opportunity to be a senior leader in a jointly managed dual listed World Heritage national park and contribute to joint management at Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park by coordinating Anangu engagement.

Under the broad direction of the Park Manager and in accordance with the Lease Agreement, Management Plan, the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) and the Board of Management’s vision, you will:

- lead and manage a cross-cultural team consisting of an APS Anangu Training Support Officer and APS Anangu “Malpa” positions and Anangu trainees, by providing strategic direction, mentoring, coaching, role modelling appropriate behaviours and promoting a safe and inclusive work environment
- contribute to Senior Management and Joint Management Partnership team meetings
- lead and drive the Indigenous Staff Network and mentor members
- monitor and report Anangu engagement on the UKTNP Anangu Employment Pathways Plan implementation
- manage and coordinate the Knowledge for Managing Country Plan development
- oversee the MCR and Junior Ranger programs with the park’s traditional Aboriginal owners
- lead the coordination of cross-cultural induction, training and on-country days
- liaise, engage and collaborate with a range of internal and external stakeholders including Central Land Council joint management officer, Mutitjulu Community Aboriginal Corporation Liaison Officer, RN Employment Services, Nyangatjatjara College, Mutitjulu Primary School, Yulara National Indigenous Training Academy.

**Please note** that this recruitment process is advertised as both an ongoing and non-ongoing position. If an offer of non-ongoing employment is made, the successful applicant would be employed for an initial period of up to 18 months with the possibility of extension up to a maximum period of 3 years in total. Should a non-ongoing position become ongoing, the merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may be used to fill the vacancy on an ongoing basis.
