At Cam Can, we’re all about supporting people with disabilities and their families to achieve their goals and aspirations. We aim to create innovative, personalised, flexible and sustainable arrangements that maximise people’s control over available resources, decision-making and choice.
Our individualised approach matches our Support Workers to the personalities, goals and expectations of our Members.
We are seeking someone that can support a non-verbal young girl that lives with Intellectual Disability, who has a wicked laugh and an incredible smile that can light up any room. Currently, she has a dedicated, caring and skilful team who supports her across the week and we are seeking to strengthen this team. Our member needs support throughout the day, overnight, in the community and with all aspects of her life when not at school.
The position would ideally suit someone who is resilient, patient, caring and kind, and can stay calm during challenging situations. We are looking for people who are interested in making a difference, consistent, reliable and can commit to providing quality support. You will have had experience in, and be able to demonstrate, a proactive and engaging style of support, display initiative and have excellent communication capability.
To be successful in this supporting role you will need to be able to autonomously and confidently follow Positive Behaviour Support Plans as well as be able to abide by an essential and carefully mapped out daily routine. You will be very well supported by the exceptional team that surrounds this young girl throughout your training and while working with her.
You will need to draw on your past experience for your ability to navigate challenging behaviours or escalations in a measured and professional manner at all times. All new team members will be provided with an extended, person-centred orientation and mentor arrangement and must have completed bowel training before commencing solo work.
If you are studying to become a nurse this may be a great way to use the skills you are learning to make a very real and positive difference in someone's life. There are daytime and overnight support times available.
