**_Play a lead role in the design and integration of a world’s best in class H&S function to an iconic organisation and underpin their Zeroharm philosophy_**

Our client is the largest integrated construction materials company in Australia, producing and selling a broad range of construction materials, including quarry products, cement, concrete, asphalt and recycled materials. Employing circa 9,100 employees and contractors nationally, their extensive footprint includes some 356 operating sites nationally.

Today they are seeking to appoint an executive role to be their national **He**ad of Health & Safety **to lead the design and seamless integration of a world class Health & Safety strategy, whilst proactively leading a large and geographically dispersed team of talented H&S practitioners to deliver best in class H&S outcomes for this iconic organisation. This is an exciting and unique opportunity for you to provide your professional H&S leadership expertise into an iconic national organisation, as you design and embed a world’s best practice H&S program, including all of business (national) safety change programs.

**Your key duties and responsibilities will include**:

- Strategic and operational H&S leadership within a high hazard, multi-site, operationally intensive environment/organisation
- Develop and execute strategic and tactical plans for the H&S function (in conjunction with the Executive Committee), demonstrating comprehensive leadership of each activity.
- Provide input into the business unit H&S plans in line with the organisations HSE strategy.
- Aligning H&S Team with Strategy and Functional Plans, balancing up competing business unit needs
- Lead and manage the provision of H&S infrastructure including systems, policies and procedures ensuring a current and future focus
- Proactive Incident management - demonstrating a preference for being infield and hands on
- Develop an excellent understanding of how the business units’ function and use this knowledge to maximise H&S ability to add value to the business.
- Ensuring the compliance of all business units with regulatory requirements in each jurisdiction, championing/promoting the H&S strategy and culture.
- Engagement and management of key stakeholders (including line management to ensure a joint ownership of the HS strategy and direction, & external)
- Aligning resources to H&S Strategy, ensuring flex to meet changing business needs and priorities.
- Ensure the identification of hazards and risk assessment across this national operation, including adequate preparation and response in the event of emergencies that may occur during the development of its activities and operations.
- Manage the H&S function in a way that empowers the broader team and effectively manages the risks and costs to the business, building line leader capability over time.
- Ensure the roles and responsibilities of the H&S function is clearly articulated to operate as a catalyst for achieving the ZeroHarm goal and safety strategy.
- Lead effective ZeroHarm Council meetings to enable business alignment and change.
- Conduct reporting and analysis on compliance program effectiveness and metrics. Lead periodic Committees on H&S and ensure overall effective governance of H&S matters.
- Collaborating with P&C team to foster a safety leadership style that demonstrates felt safety leadership. Proactively developing H&S business partnering, reporting and insight functions into a working group function
- Collaborating with the Sustainability function on environmental strategy and initiatives.
- Communication Management to ensure Executive Committee members/ EGMs are aware of HS decisions taken which may impact on their business either directly or through the business unit-based safety managers.
- Overseeing consistency of delivery of health and safety training measure and identify and pursue significant issues.

**What you will bring to this role**:

- 10+ Years’ exp in a tactical and executive Health and Safety leadership role at both strategic and operational levels within a high hazard, multi-site, operationally intensive environment.
- Relevant Tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety or other relevant discipline.
- Proven analytical skills to draw insight from the data
- A passion for getting into the detail to successfully lead your senior H&S team: from ensuring incident route cause identification is the norm with best practice solutions embedded through to developing awareness campaigns etc.
- Proven success in the design, delivery and embedding of a health and safety change programme (including of ISO 45001, and other current standards and legislation), that delivers a positive safety culture across the org, as well as ensuring the timely delivery of associated underpinning H&S management action pla
