**The Role**
We are looking for a dynamic and team focused Heritage professional to join our team. Reporting to the General Manager Sustainability, the Heritage Advisor’s accountabilities and functions will include responsibility for cultural, historical, and maritime heritage issues within the port sites at Southern Ports.
The Heritage Advisor will be responsible for engagement on heritage issues, establishment and implementation of best practice heritage planning and processes and providing internal advice to appropriately manage cultural heritage values that occur within the Port areas of Bunbury, Albany and Esperance. The Heritage Advisor will also assist in developing and maintaining relationships with key external stakeholders and assisting in the implementation of heritage recommendations of the Southern Ports Sustainability Plan and Heritage Policy, as well as ensuring legislative compliance.
This permanent position will appeal to a suitably qualified Heritage specialist, experienced ins supporting a varied team and will require innovative thinking and a calm, focused approach.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Lead the development and implementation of actions that promote engagement, understanding, and awareness of cultural heritage values for employees, contractors, and tenants.
- Organise and/or deliver internal heritage awareness training packages
- Engage with relevant local, state, and federal government authorities in relation to heritage
- Provide advice and assist the Sustainability and Communications teams to plan relevant heritage events and information days
- Develop and maintain a Heritage Management Plan across Southern Ports sites
- Assist with preparing and obtaining cultural heritage approvals in support of Southern Ports development projects
- Produce monthly and quarterly heritage advice, risks and progress reports for executive leadership team, board, and other internal and external stakeholders
**Skills and Experience**
- Demonstrated cultural heritage experience, preferably with stakeholder engagement responsibilities in an industrial or port setting
- Experience in undertaking, managing, and improving heritage monitoring programs
- Proven ability to assess operational activities to identify cultural heritage issues and recommend on-ground management measures
- Highly developed written and verbal communications skills including ability to achieve clarity and agreed outcomes
- Experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in a culturally appropriate manner
- Highly developed consultation and negotiation skills to work with both internal and external stakeholders to achieve constructive influence
- Experience in project management
- Sound computer skills including Microsoft suite of programs
- Experience in use of ArcGIS Enterprise software is desirable.
- Excellent understanding of all relevant local, state, and federal heritage legislation
- Understanding of WA Native Title Settlements and WA government Standard Heritage Agreements
- WA Driver’s license
**Requirements**:
To be eligible for this full-time role, applicants must provide proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency. The successful applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card and undergo a pre-employment medical assessment including drug and alcohol testing.
