**Role**:

- As a team member, the Concert Band specialist will be involved in developing excellent musicians that are musically literate and understand the requirements of playing in an ensemble. Their purpose is to inspire students and to take up music and help them reach their potential as a musician, improving and extending the role of Instrumental Music at McKinnon Secondary College.
- The applicant will be responsible for the development of the core band ensembles within the College.
- In consultation with the Head of the Performing Arts and Instrumental Managers, source repertoire that is appropriate for the standard of the ensemble and introduce pieces of increasing difficulty that extends students over the course of the year, whilst maintaining an enthusiasm amongst the students.
- Be an advocate for the ensemble music program in the College
- Contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of the Music curriculum area within the school.
- The College requires all instrumental music teachers to demonstrate a high level of competency in teaching instruments in groups.
- Direct teaching of groups of students and individual students.

**Responsibilities**:
The responsibilities of an Instrumental Music teacher may include but is not limited to:

- Direct teaching of groups of students and individual students.
- Contributing to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Music curriculum area within the school.
- Undertaking other related and organisational duties as determined by the School Principal and/or the Managers of Instrumental Music.
- Participating in such activities as parent meetings, staff meetings, concerts, camps and excursions.
- Complying with the timetable and professional ethos of the school.
- Creating a positive environment conducive to learning for the students of whom he or she is in charge in line with the school's well-being and pastoral care policies;
**Who May Apply**:
Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
