Disability Support Worker

Caring Approach is a dynamic, vibrant, supportive, and caring organization. We provide tailored in-home support and community care for the elderly and people with both physical and intellectual disabilities, along with people needing short-term assistance after being discharged from the hospital.

**We are seeking caring and professional individuals to become part of the Caring Approach team to promote independence for people living at home.**
- **Caring Approach currently has available shifts in Canberra ACT.**_

**We have a need to hire experienced MND staff to provide in-home support for NDIS Participant in Canberra, ACT. **_Applicants must already have experience supporting individuals with MND and training to be considered for an interview. Further individual training will be provided to _successful _applicants._

**General duties include**:
Provide personal care and support to individuals in their own homes, including assistance with showering and bathing.
- Domestic tasks
- Manual Handling
- Food preparation
- Medication Assistance
- activities of daily living and skills building.
- Transport to and from medical appointments and social outings
- Supporting within 24/7 setting, sleepovers.

**To be successful in this role you will need**:

- An understanding of delivering care in a person-centered way.
- Availability and be reliable & punctual.
- Certificate 111 or above in disability, aged care, and community care.
- the ability to problem-solve and keep strictly to the routine experience in working with people who have complex behaviors, including communication barriers
- Ability to engage positively with a variety of personality types Ability to fulfill shift duties and have excellent time management skills Ability to read and interpret service information
- Ability and understanding of infection control procedures
- Have an appropriate visa to work in Australia
- Current Police check within the last 12 months or willingness to obtain before employment
- WWVP - ACT with NDIS screening.
- Smartphones with the ability to install apps
- 1-year minimum experience delivering positive behaviour support
- Current first aid/CPR certificate
- Drivers license and own fully insured transport
- Have an empathetic and understanding approach to providing care to people with high complex needs
- completion of the NDIS new worker module or willingness to complete it as part of the induction process
- completion of the COVID-19 e-learning module
- Provide Vaccination Certificate.

**Desirable**:

- Experience in working with people to increase their independence
- Certification and or experience in bowel care
- Certification and or experience in medication administration
- Experience in working with people that require manual handling
- Certificate 111 or above in the relevant area A
- ability to implement positive behavior support strategies and an awareness of person-centered active support.
