**The Department**
An exciting opportunity exists for a Research Assistant to join the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases within Central Clinical School. The incumbent will join the blood cancer genomics Laboratory investigating transcriptional networks that underpin normal blood development and haematological malignancies. The project involves investigation of pioneer transcription factors that program and re-program mesoderm to form blood stem cells or those that are aberrantly activated as part of a blood cancer mechanism.
The laboratory is focused on discovering novel therapeutic targets for blood cancers particularly chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms. The projects would also involve more fundamental research into the mechanisms of gene regulation in both normal and malignant contexts. The lab utilises a wide variety of cutting edge genomics assays (ATACseq, ChIPseq, RNAseq, scRNAseq) as well as CRISPR screens, functional assays and mouse models.

- Mammalian cell culture
- qRT-PCR, PCR, cloning
- Western blotting/protein biochemistry
- ChIP, and ATAC-seq, are desirable but not essential.
- Knowledge of NGS technology is desirable but not essential.
- High-quality written and oral communication skills
- High level of interpersonal skills
- Flexibility and ability to develop new skills
