About the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre
Founded in 2001, the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is Australia’s largest human rights organisation providing support to people seeking asylum. We are an independent not-for-profit organisation whose programs support and empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well being. We champion the rights of people seeking asylum and mobilise a community of compassion to create lasting social and policy change.
We are a values-driven organisation that strives to be part of a change movement that supports people seeking asylum by providing critical services such as assistance with accommodation, food, medical and legal services.
The ASRC movement is proudly supported by a community of committed volunteers and supporters who embrace the organisation’s vision that people seeking asylum can live safely, sustainably, independently and equally.
About the Role
Reporting to the Lead Campaigner, this essential role involves supporting the creation and execution of digital campaigns aimed at engaging and mobilising supporters while raising awareness about issues affecting refugees and asylum seekers. By collaborating closely with the Organising Program and the broader Advocacy team, your excellent communication skills and innovative social media strategies will effectively engage ASRC supporters and contribute to driving significant policy change.
As the Campaigns and Advocacy Officer, you will engage in discussions on proposed federal laws impacting refugees and asylum seekers, collaborating with the advocacy team to develop effective responses. You will communicate with individuals who have lived experience of seeking asylum to articulate their needs publicly and create impactful social media content that shares their stories.
About You
You are someone with a passion for justice and social change and a strong commitment to the rights of refugees and people seeking asylum. Along with previous experience in a similar role or a tertiary qualification in Communications or similar, you will also have:
- Excellent written and communication skills, with the ability to translate policies into accessible and engaging content
- Experience managing social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok) with a proven ability to create timely and impactful content
- Strong problem solving skills, able to handle challenges independently and collaboratively.
- A flexible, team-oriented mindset and able to adapt in a fast-paced environment and bring fresh ideas to the table.
