**Introduction**:
Star Aviation is Australia's most dedicated Ground Handling service provider, partnering with a number of Airlines and Airports. We pride ourselves on being big enough to manage, yet small enough to care
At Star Aviation, we’re not just filling roles — we’re building a team of people who embody the spirit of our brand and take pride in representing both our company and our customers.
We’re proud to be big enough to manage - with the capability, experience, and professionalism to keep operations running smoothly at some of Australia’s busiest airports.
But we’re also small enough to care - which means you’ll be recognised, supported, and genuinely valued every step of the way.
If that sounds like the kind of team you want to be part of — we’d love to hear from you.
**Description**:
As a Duty Manager, you’ll be the key point of contact on shift—responsible for leading our operational teams, maintaining high levels of customer service, and ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of all Star Aviation services. This hands-on leadership role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can effectively manage team performance, service delivery, and daily operational challenges.
This is a full-time position on a rotating shiftwork roster.
You’ll need to be available to work across a variety of shifts, with start times as early as 4:00am and finish times as late as 12:30am, including weekends and public holidays as required.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Oversee daily service delivery and shift operations across domestic and international flights
- Manage operational performance to ensure safety, efficiency, and exceptional customer service
- Consistently meet key performance indicators (KPIs) relating to safety, on-time performance, customer satisfaction, and financial outcomes
- Act as a secondary escalation point for disruption management and problem resolution
- Ensure team training is compliant, current, and knowledge is retained across all roles
- Coach and develop Team Leaders and team members to build a high-performing, engaged workforce
- Address team performance issues and absenteeism through proactive leadership and support
- Manage resource planning and arrange shift coverage in response to unplanned leave or surge requirements
- Participate in airline meetings and provide operational updates to internal and external stakeholders
- Foster a safety-first culture by promoting awareness of WHS, aviation safety, and security requirements
- Provide support to staff as needed, including stepping in to perform frontline services
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with airline clients and airport stakeholders
- Monitor compliance reporting and follow up on any irregularities or non-conformance
- Identify new service opportunities and contribute to business growth through quality service delivery
- Ensure team conduct and service standards reflect Star Aviation’s values and brand expectations
**Skills and Experiences**:
**What You'll Bring**:
- Experience within the Aviation/Airline Industry, with a strong focus on ground handling operations
- Proven experience managing and motivating a team in a fast-paced operational environment
- Strong leadership qualities with the ability to coach and develop others
- A valid provisional or full Australian Driver Licence
- A valid Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC), or the ability to obtain one
- A valid Airside Driving Authority (ADA), or the ability to obtain one
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict operational deadlines
- Exceptional customer service focus and a caring approach when dealing with people
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write incident reports in plain English
- Able to work well in a dynamic, high-volume team environment
- Agile and adaptable - able to shift priorities and solve problems on the go
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships
- Demonstrated ability to think critically and deliver solution-based outcomes
- A strong understanding of workplace safety and aviation compliance standards
- Proficiency in English and competent with Microsoft Office Suite
