Afterhours Theatre Nursing Unit Manager

The After-Hours Theatre Nursing Unit Manager (AH NUM 1) is a pivotal leadership role responsible overseeing the operations of the Operating Theatres and Perioperative areas outside regular business hours. In this role, you will be responsible for managing both nursing and non-nursing staff, ensuring high standards of patient care, and collaborating with other departments to deliver seamless, high-quality surgical services after-hours. As AHNUM1, you will make critical decisions, manage resources and act as a point of escalation for both clinical and administrative matters.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Provide leadership and support to the nursing and theatre teams during after-hours shifts
- Ensure the smooth running of theatre operations, including surgical scheduling, patient preparation, and post-operative care
- Act as the primary contact for any clinical or operational issues that arise after hours
- Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals to provide optimal patient care
- Manage staffing levels, including rostering and allocation of duties, to ensure adequate coverage
- Maintain a safe and effective environment for patients and staff by adhering to hospital policies and procedures
- Oversee the accurate and timely documentation of patient care, incidents, and reports
- Coordinate with other hospital departments to facilitate efficient patient flow and emergency surgeries
- Provide support, guidance, and performance feedback to the nursing team
**Qualifications & Experience**:
- Current AHPRA registration
- Minimum of 4 years of clinical experience in perioperative nursing, with demonstrated leadership capabilities
- Advanced knowledge of Perioperative nursing standards, procedures and clinical governance
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively
- Experience in managing theatre schedules, staff rostering, and theatre resource allocation
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Availability to work after-hours shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays
**Desirable**:
- Postgraduate qualifications in perioperative nursing or management
- Previous experience as a Nursing Unit Manager or similar leadership role in a healthcare setting
