Internal Control Assurance Specialist

We are on the lookout for our next team member to join Vanguard’s Internal Control team as an Assurance Specialist, to lead the design, implementation and maintenance of the assurance program.

In addition, this role has potential to support management with business-aligned control responsibilities.

Reporting to the Strategy and Enablement Manager and joining a broader team of Finance and Internal Controls professionals, in this role you will support the Internal Controls function and the broader business in building a strong control environment and culture as VIA continues to grow and evolve.

We are on the lookout for our next team member to join Vanguard’s Internal Control team as an Assurance Specialist, to lead the design, implementation and maintenance of the assurance program. In addition, this role has potential to support management with business-aligned control responsibilities.

Reporting to the Strategy and Enablement Manager and joining a broader team of Finance and Internal Controls professionals, in this role you will support the Internal Controls function and the broader business in building a strong control environment and culture as VIA continues to grow and evolve.

**What you will do**
- Design a risk-based controls assurance plan, including analysing and assessing established controls against defined methodology for inclusion in Design Adequacy Testing (DAT) and Operating Effectiveness Testing (OET) assurance plan
- Develop and maintain control assurance testing schedule and associated work allocations
- Manage communication and expectations associated with assurance testing plan across Assurance Team and Control Partners including rationale for testing
- Provide consultation, facilitation and analytical support to ensure testing plan is executed in line with expected standards
- Execute ongoing quality assurance reviews against established framework including providing feedback and education to crew as required
- Execute quality assurance over management control performance reporting against the established plan on a periodic basis
- Engage and work in partnership with manager and business stakeholders to continuously improve the control environment, culture, and capabilities in the business
- Embed internal controls best practice through education, awareness, and where required training

**What we are looking for**
- Strong knowledge of operational aspects of the funds management and superannuation industry
- Demonstrated experience in a risk/assurance related role within a Financial Services organisation or professional services firm would be highly regarded
- Strong understanding of control methodology and frameworks
- Strong planning, organisation and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to independently handle multiple initiatives simultaneously
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across functional departments within a dynamic and fast paced environment
- Strong communication and stakeholder management; proven ability to build and maintain productive relationships with internal stakeholders across the business including senior management
- An open, flexible, and team-oriented personality, with the ability to think and act independently

**Specialisations that will make an impact**
- Experience in conducting Design and Operating Effectiveness testing
- Ability to analyse trends, identify opportunities, diagnose problems and issues, and recommend appropriate actions
- Undergraduate degree in a related field or relevant experience in a similar role
