The **Future Generation Joint Venture** brings together the combined engineering experience and expertise of WeBuild, Clough and Lane and has been selected to design construct **Snowy 2.0**. This project is based within the Snowy Mountains in NSW and will deliver one of the largest pumped hydro schemes in the world.
Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter in the Snowy Scheme's history. It is the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia and will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come. This Iconic Project has and will continue to create its own legacy in Australian history.
**Purpose of the Role**:
The Environmental Sustainability Advisor is accountable for leading, coordinating, and supporting the development and implementation of The Project’s sustainability strategies, plans, policies, and programs that reduce environmental impact, improve resource efficiency, and align with FGJV and Webuild goals such as achieving net zero emissions.
This role will drive sustainable outcomes, develop a culture of innovation and sustainability, and help create a lasting social, environmental and economic legacy for this iconic project.
**Qualifications**:
- Tertiary Environmental Sustainability Qualifications or related discipline (e.g. engineering, environmental science and management or similar);
- Drivers Licence;
- White Card
- Formal certification in sustainability (e.g., ISC, GreenStar, BREAAM LEED, WELL, ISO 14001) is preferred
**Experience**:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in the Construction Industry in a similar role - preferred
- Strong knowledge of sustainability frameworks (e.g., GRI, ISC, GreenStar, ESG, Climate Active).
- Experience in carbon accounting and sustainability reporting.
- Knowledge of, or experience in, energy, water and materials modelling
- Building strong working relationships with construction personnel, client and stakeholder representatives to achieve sound sustainability outcomes
- Ability to analyse complex data and develop actionable insights relating to sustainability risks and opportunities.
- Familiarity with climate risk and adaptation planning.
- Understanding of Australia's carbon legislation, reporting (e.g. NGER) and policy landscape.
**Required Competencies**:
- Sound decision making abilities in line with environmental approval and management system requirements
- Excellent knowledge of sustainability, global trends, innovations and initiatives for construction projects
- Good understanding of the current market and what sustainable alternatives exist for construction (e.g. low carbon concrete and asphalt, alternative and low carbon fuels etc)
- Genuine commitment and proactive approach to environmental management and procedures
- Effective analytical and written skills are required for this position.
- Confident decision-making ability
- Excellent communication and report writing skills
- Proficient use of Microsoft suite
- Proficient use in sustainability software and tools
**Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities**:
- Provide advice and support to the construction management team(s) to ensure compliance with statutory, FGJV and client Environmental obligations.
- Implementation of FGJV Environmental and Sustainability Policy, Environmental Management Strategy, EMPs and subsidiary systems documentation.
- Communication of Sustainability issues, standards, and procedures.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of the sustainably strategies and action plans.
- Conduct environmental impact assessments and carbon accounting (including Scope 3 emissions).
- Monitor and report on sustainability performance metrics.
- Provide technical advice on energy efficiency, waste reduction, and renewable energy.
- Administer internal sustainability funding mechanisms (e.g., Carbon Revolving Reserve).
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to promote sustainable practices.
- Support the development of a Community Project Net Zero Strategy.
- Facilitate staff training, knowledge sharing and capacity-building initiatives.
- Facilitate and attend internal, SHL & external Sustainability audits.
- Promote a dynamic, innovative and positive environmental culture focused on achieving success.
- Undertake additional tasks, as directed by the Environmental Manager, Environmental Coordinator, or Site HSE Manager, to support FGJV’s Project HSSE goals and values**.**
