**Where you’ll be working**
You will be working in the Office of the Deputy Secretary Population and Public Health & Chief Health Officer (ODS PPH & CHO), and will be based at 1 Reserve Road, St Leonards, NSW 2065. The Office of the DS PPH&CHO supports patient-centred health outcomes for NSW through the delivery of trusted, timely, evidence-based advice on, and support with, population health policy, strategic priorities and emerging public health issues.

**About the Role**
The Medical Adviser is responsible for providing high-level clinical, technical expertise and senior medical leadership in relation to the portfolio of the Deputy Secretary Population and Public Health & Chief Health Officer, including critical incidents, other issues of public health concern and priority public health projects. The Medical Advisor delivers medical and epidemiological expertise and informs complex data analysis and performs critical appraisals to support the Chief Health Officer.

**Selection Criteria**
- Qualifications in medicine (with current registration in NSW) and public health or other relevant discipline.
- High level understanding and extensive knowledge of the development, implementation and management of health policy, programs and information management and surveillance systems.
- Substantial knowledge and experience of health data collections and the use of data to manage and monitor policy and programs.
- Demonstrated high level capacity to set and manage competing priorities and to deliver high quality products within agreed timeframes and budgets.
- Medical leadership skills and experience in providing high level policy advice and recommendations on complex clinical and population health issues at executive level.
- Excellent risk assessment, mitigation and communication skills, especially between the community, clinicians and population health personnel.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience in scientific writing and a record of publications in peer-reviewed journals. Excellent teamwork skills, including working collaboratively with colleagues in the Office of the Deputy Secretary Population and Public Health & Chief Health Officer and other Population and Public Health Branches.
