Calvary Junior Medical Officers Private Hospital Program
Full Time (12 Months)
Commencing February 2025
Calvary Riverina Hospital, a major regional private hospital, is seeking suitably qualified junior doctors to join the hospital’s Junior Medical Officer (JMO) program. The Calvary JMO program is targeted at junior doctors who have successfully completed their intern year, and is at least at post graduate year (PGY) level 2 or above, and seeking to further experience clinical areas such as surgery, intensive care, rehabilitation, general medicine.
Calvary Riverina Hospital is a private not for profit health service comprising 122 beds providing a diverse range of acute and sub-acute medical and surgical services to a catchment population of 300,000 people. The hospital is the largest private hospital in regional NSW located in the Central Business District of Wagga Wagga and situated in a large vibrant health precinct. Wagga Base Hospital is within close proximity and is the largest regional referral public hospital in NSW. The University of NSW and University of Notre Dame Australia are located onsite at both hospitals. The Universities offer access to extensive education and research opportunities for doctors. Medical students from the two universities access clinical placement at Calvary Riverina and Wagga Base Hospitals.

The program features four term rotations comprising: Anaesthetics/Pain Management, Critical care/ICU, General Surgery/Urology and Rehabilitation for PGY 2s, with a focus on Critical care/ ICU and general ward work for PGY 3s and 4s. The terms offered will enhance the junior doctor’s experience and skills across a broad set of competencies in a supported environment of supervised clinical practice. Research and study initiatives are encouraged and may be supported by scholarship contributions. The program is guided by the Director Prevocational Education and Training. Additional individualised clinical education and research mentoring is facilitated by the designated JMO Clinical Education Lead.
Calvary Riverina Hospital JMOs network collaboratively with a large JMO cohort at Wagga Base Hospital. Educational resources and skills based learning is integrated between the two hospitals and JMOs are supported to develop a wide social and professional network. For the past four years consecutively Wagga JMOs have been awarded NSW JMO of the year for three years and runner up in 2019, Wagga has also ranked first in the AMA JMO satisfaction survey.
