**Position Information**:
West Wallsend High School is a proudly comprehensive 7-12 community-focused school, which supports and encourages students to achieve their full potential in an inclusive and caring environment based on the core values of respect, responsibility and excellence. The school is located on the land of the Pambalong of Awabakal Country on the western side of Newcastle as part of the Lake Macquarie North principal network and has an enrolment of almost 700 students. Students come from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds with 16% of students identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. The school has seven inclusive education classes.

West Wallsend High School has a tradition of strong parent and community involvement working together with the P&C and the Kumaridha AECG. We foster proud connections to four partner primary schools as part of the Sugarloaf Community of Schools as well as extensive links to the wider West Wallsend community, the University of Newcastle, Wollotuka Institute and other cultural, vocational and community organisations.

**Selection Criteria**:
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

1. Demonstrated expertise to lead key facets of school operations including the improvement of administrative processes and systems for areas such as casual staff organisation, exam scheduling, student attendance, variation to routines and/or timetabling.

2. Highly developed capacity to lead collaborative and evidence-based planning processes to support strategic priorities for whole school improvement.

3. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a small KLA providing high level support for new curriculum reform implementation and professional development for teachers of varied experience.

4. Capacity to work collaboratively, liaise, and negotiate with key stakeholders including the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander school community, to support and develop a school culture focused on improved academic, wellbeing and cultural outcomes for all students.

**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
