Young Carer Coordinator

**Supporting young carers aged between 5-25 years to improve their wellbeing, increase education and employment participation, and strengthen connections with communities, support networks and services.**
**The Role**
The Young Carer Support Services (YCSS) program is a newly funded initiative from the Department of Human Services to assist with providing a range of services to support young carers aged between 5 - 25 years.
Through an intensive case management approach, YCSS aims to address young carers' immediate support needs and assist to address barriers to accessing mainstream service.
Within the role the Young Carer Coordinator will work 1:1 with young carers to assist with providing supports in the following areas:
- Improved the young carers wellbeing.
- Increase education and employment participations.
- Strengthen connections with communities, support networks and services.
The Young Carer Coordinator will work holistically and inclusively with the young carer and their support networks, in a way that will not impede on their caring capacity. The Young Carer Coordinator will be required to be strength-based and person centred with their approach. Assisting the young carer to goal set whilst also utilising scaffolding techniques to promote self-advocacy and independence.
The Young Carer Coordinator will provide mentorship services, and assist in experiencing supports with the young carers, until appropriate longer-term supports are in place, or identified goals are reached. This includes assisting to provide information and access to the Commonwealth Carer Gateway as the primary funding platform for carers.

**What you need to bring**
**Essential**
- Cert IV in Community Services, Youth Work or equivalent
- Knowledge of the impacts on a young person and their caring role
- Proficient in computer use and ability to learn and use databases
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Valid Department of Human Services (DHS) Working with Children Check
- Valid Australian Drivers Licence
**Desirable**
- Experience in a similar role
- Experience working with youth and/or unpaid carers
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, CALD and LGBTQIA+ communities
