**About the Role**:
The Client Capacity and Decision-Making Specialist is responsible for educating and building awareness of decision-making regarding capacity of clients, their stakeholders, and Minda staff. This position will lead implementation of key change regarding decision making for those we support to identify who has legal decision-making capacity (wherever possible, clients themselves) and to keep appropriate records and help them through the processes to establish legal nominations for decision making.

This role is to provide education and guidance to access formal pathways including The South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (SACAT), and education via client and family workshops. Provision of supports is conducted in line with NDIS practice standards and State and Federal laws related to decision-making and an individual’s own capacity to make decisions.

If you have experience supporting those with intellectual disabilities and their support networks through SACAT processes, have an understanding of legal decision-making nomination process and want to lead instrumental change to help our clients have choice and control in their daily lives, this role may be the one for you

**In this Role you will be responsible for**:

- Provide advice and guidance to the people we support on decision-making and capacity, linking them with external services
- Build client capacity and actively encourage participation in decision-making in relation to all areas of their life, assisting the people we support to identify their rights and representing their own needs
- Build resources and networks with external advocacy providers to educate and advise to the people we support, their support networks and Minda staff
- Assist clients to access external agencies, referring clients and their support networks to external advocacy services in times of need
- Build knowledge and provide information to families and networks on decision-making and capacity including SACAT
- Educate through family workshops to build knowledge of NDIS and supported informed decision-making
- Accurately complete administrative tasks within the required timeframes, inclusive of but not limited to monthly reporting and client record management
- Establish effective working relationships with SACAT, The Office of Public Advocate (OPA) and The Public Trustee (PT) to best support our clients and their networks
- Has experience in Social Work or relative field
- Understanding of Disability Service Standards and relevant legislation
- Experience in dealing with Government departments
- Understanding of United Nations Convention on Human Rights for people with a disability
- Ability to effectively communicate within a team environment and with other departments, families, professionals and stakeholders
- Engages in a timely, professional, and positive manner with those we support
- Positive and progressive attitude with a willingness to adapt to an evolving environment
- Is emotionally intelligent, being aware and sensitive to client rights to their own personal opinions, values, beliefs, and preferences fie religion, sexual preference, etc
- Comfortable leading and implementing key initiatives

**Skills and Qualifications Required**
- Tertiary qualifications in humanities, ideally Social Work or Developmental Education
- NDIS Worker Screening Check (or Valid DHS Disability Screening)
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module
- Covid-19 Vaccination (Two Doses and a booster)
- Current Driver's Licence
- Unrestricted Working Rights
