**The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.

**About the Role**

The General Registry Manager at the Melbourne Magistrate's Court is responsible for leading and managing the combined Civil / Criminal Registry and Cash Office at Melbourne Magistrates' Court.

This management role requires highly developed leadership and management experience in addition to an advanced understanding of the Court's protocols and procedures.

The position operates within a complex, demanding and sensitive environment that requires the capacity to think innovatively and influence developments within the General Registry and initiate, build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including the Judiciary, senior officers of the courts and government departments

Key accountabilities include:

- As a Registrar of the Magistrates' Court, managing and directing the performance of all legal, administrative and quasi-judicial functions relating to the day to day and ongoing operations of the General Registry and the Cash Office exercising appropriate statutory responsibilities to ensure court objectives are achieved.
- Leading and managing the staff and operations of the General Registry of the Melbourne Magistrates' Court.
- Monitoring and interpreting relevant legislation and procedures and formulate appropriate and authoritative advice on all civil and criminal matters within the Court's jurisdictions.
- Contributing to the development of policy and procedures applicable to the civil and criminal jurisdictions by monitoring / identifying issues and making recommendations.
- Contributing to strategic business planning for the Melbourne Magistrates' Court.
- Planning, developing and implementing Registry and Cash Office staff training and professional development programs and ensure staff are rotated appropriately within the General Registry to maximise their learning opportunities and knowledge base.
- Initiating, building and maintaining key relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including the Judiciary, the legal profession, police, external organisations and agencies, court users, and other stakeholders.

**About You**
- Demonstrated extensive knowledge of legislation, practices, policies and procedures applicable to Victorian Courts and Tribunals
- Certificate IV in Government (Court Services ) or equivalent
- High level technical skills and understanding of a Registrar
- Stong leadership skills with the ability to manage a variety of staff with varying levels of skills and experience
