In 2008, Adelaide teenager Sam Davis fell victim to a violent and unprovoked one-punch assault that cost him his life. UNICEF states that ‘every 7 minutes somewhere in the world an adolescent is killed by an act of violence’. Youth led violence is still as prevalent today as it was 16 years ago.

The Sammy D Foundation founded by Sam’s parents and governed by a Board of Directors, works to prevent such incidences occur in our community through their education programs that focus on bullying prevention, violence prevention as well as alcohol and other drug education in school, sporting and community settings. The organisation has equipped more than 257,171 young people across South Australia and other states within Australia, with the knowledge needed to keep themselves and their mates safe.

Sammy D Foundation is now seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified professionals for a voluntary position on the Board with a chance to make a positive difference within the community.

Responsibilities include:
- Attending and making significant contributions to bi-monthly Board meetings;
- Participating in special purpose sub committees;
- Providing your expertise in the Board’s decision making;
- Identifying and developing initiatives designed to add value to the Sammy D Foundation;
- Reviewing activities and performance of management;
- Ensuring that decisions made reflect and enhance the organisation’s strategic plan.

Applications are open to professionals from all backgrounds with strong corporate, financial, governance experience and excellent commercial acumen, particularly with a passion for social enterprise. Your professional organisational, problem solving, and strategic planning skills will need to be complemented by flexibility, energy, and vision.
