Early Childhood Assistants

There may be a requirement for flexibility to work on a rotational shift roster basis. Some of the duties may need to be performed at times outside of normal classroom hours e.g. festivals.

**Short Description**

The Early Childhood Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Early Childhood Teacher in implementing our Steiner Early Childhood Program. The assistant helps create a warm, nurturing environment while working collaboratively with the teacher in the background.

Key responsibilities include preparing activities, managing domestic tasks such as morning tea preparation and cleaning, and supervising children aged three to six years both indoors and outdoors. This position requires a strong partnership with the teacher and a deep understanding of the children’s developmental needs in alignment with Steiner principles.

The Early Childhood Assistant should be self-motivated and skilled at recognising the teacher’s needs throughout the daily early childhood curriculum. They must also be able to multitask and identify the areas of greatest need while working in both the classroom and outdoor spaces.

In addition, the assistant will provide support in the lead-up to and preparation for sessional festivals and events within the early childhood program.

**Duties include**
- Preparation for activities, including cooking, domestic tasks, artistic projects, outdoor activities, and rest periods.
- Tidying and cleaning of the classrooms as needed.
- Playground supervision, tidying away of equipment and gardening.
- Assisting children with personal hygiene such as hand washing, changing clothes and toileting.
- Attending faculty meetings and other meetings as required.
- Attending and participating in professional development days and training courses
- Using Early Childhood software programs to mark roles, record injuries or medical information in support of the teacher.
- Using Early Childhood software programs to record time sheets, check rosters and log in and out of classes as per legislative requirements
- Attendance to asthma and anaphylaxis, safe food handling, child protection training as required by legislation and notified by the Early Childhood Director.
- Preparation for and participation in festivals as notified by the Early Childhood Director
- Complying with Child Protection Mandatory Reporting requirements.
- Adhering to Orana School policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Some of the duties may need to be performed at times outside of normal classroom hours e.g. festivals.
- In the event that the teacher is absent the assistant may be required to assume this role for short periods of time e.g. programming, illness or appointments.

**Required Qualifications**
- Minimum Certificate III in Children’s Services
- Diploma in Children’s Services (or equivalent) highly desirable
- First Aid Certificate
- Current Working with Vulnerable People (WwVP) Registration
- Food Safety Training.
