**The Role**
The Aviation Safety Data Manager is a member of Army Aviation Safety Section. The section implements and monitors the effectiveness of the Aviation Safety Management System by developing policy, investigating safety events, and analysing data from a variety of systems and programmes.

The Aviation Safety Data Manager supervises and mentors the Aviation Safety Data Coordinator, and develops evidence-based recommendations to address hazards and trends that have been identified through effective data analysis. The Aviation Safety Data Manager will liaise vertically and laterally with a variety of stakeholders to gather data from across the Army Aviation capability. They will be required to identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholders’ needs and expectations to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes.

The ASDM is responsible for:

- Ongoing self-improvement and professional development of both Safety Data position
- Administration and management of Army Aviation safety reporting in Sentinel and the Aviation Safety Management Information System.
- Hazard identification, safety trend analysis and investigation of arising issues to inform command assessment of risks to the Army Aviation capability.
- Identifying opportunities to improve the Army Aviation Safety Management System. Coordinate and facilitate hazard review to provide quality assurance of the ASMS functions to inform command assessment on the health of the system.

**About our Team**

Aviation Safety Section has a broad remit to liaise with staff from the Defence Aviation regulator, Navy, Air Force, other Defence agencies and industry; develop safety policy; investigate significant safety events; monitor the safety reporting system; contribute to safety audits; and manage Army Aviation’s risk management tool and flight operations quality assurance programme.

The staff is a mix of full time and part time Defence members, and APS, based primarily in Canberra but with some staff working remotely. The Aviation Safety Data Manager position is based at Canberra Airport.
