Are you passionate about conserving South Australia's unique natural heritage? Do you have a solid understanding of ecological principles and legislation? We're looking for a dedicated and knowledgeable Native Vegetation Officer to join our team and help protect and manage native vegetation across the state.
**About the Role**
As a Native Vegetation Officer, you will play a key role in administering the _Native Vegetation Act_ 1991 and _Native Vegetation Regulations_ 2017, ensuring that native flora is protected and sustainably managed. This includes:
- Facilitating the protection of remnant vegetation, especially through Heritage Agreements
- Conducting on-ground assessments and supporting compliance functions
**Key Responsibilities**
- Provide expert scientific and technical advice to landholders, planning authorities, industry, and community groups regarding the conservation and management of native vegetation.
- Assist in the delivery of compliance activities under the _Native Vegetation Act_
- Work collaboratively with the Native Vegetation Council, its committees, and other departmental groups to assess native vegetation offsets and ensure legal compliance.
**What We’re Looking For**:
- A background in ecology, environmental science, botany, natural resource management or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of the _Native Vegetation Act (SA)_ 1991 and _Regulations (SA)_
- Experience in vegetation assessment, compliance monitoring, or conservation planning is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- A commitment to sustainable land management and biodiversity conservation.

**Contract**:
12 Month Contract
**Essential Qualifications**:
Degree in environmental science, natural resources management or equivalent.
**Special Conditions**:
- Some overnight absences may be required.
- Some intra and interstate travel may be required.
- May be required to participate in fire management and associated duties
**Remuneration**:
PO2, $88,255 min - $97,667 max p.a.
