Bowan Island started 85 years ago in the Pacific Northwest of North America. This has allowed it to develop the signature full-bodied flavour present in every Bowan Island loaf.
Bowan now has a state-of-the-art central bakehouse, where our bakers continue to make world-class pastries, sourdough & granola -blending artisanal methodology with innovative new methods to deliver a superior product. Bowan Island’s First Artisan Bakehouse opens in Drummoyne, and is still open today. It was here we developed our signature cold fermentation process and dedication to using only the best, locally-sourced ingredients.
About the Role:
We’re looking for an experienced and motivated café manager to lead our Glebe team. This is an exciting opportunity to bring Bowan Island’s mission to a stunning new future, offering a blend of great coffee, food, and exceptional service. As the Café Manager, you’ll oversee daily operations, maintain the highest quality of service, and ensure smooth collaboration with our coffee bar supervisor. You’ll report directly to the General Manager, who will provide guidance and support as needed. The cafe operates 7 days a week, including most public holidays; while weekend and holiday shifts are part of the role, flexibility is possible.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Development: Recruit, train, and lead a dedicated team, cultivating a positive work culture.
- Operational Excellence: Ensure smooth daily operations, maintaining high standards in service, food, and beverage quality.
- Coffee Expertise: Work closely with the coffee bar supervisor to ensure the coffee quality and experience are consistent and exceptional.
- Customer Experience: Create a welcoming, memorable atmosphere aligned with Bowan island value.
- Scheduling & Inventory: Manage scheduling to ensure optimal coverage and efficient service, while maintaining inventory for both kitchen and coffee bar.
What We’re Looking For:
- 3+ years of experience in a similar management role, preferably in a high-paced, premium cafe or hospitality setting.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Passion for coffee and the hospitality industry, with a solid understanding of customer service.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment, with flexibility for weekends and public holidays when needed.

Pay: $33.00 - $36.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 - 38 per week
