What is the role?
Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Intelligence Manager - Intelligence and Covert Services. AFP Intelligence Operations is one of many functions delivering specialist capabilities to the broad remit of the AFP. It is integral to AFP criminal investigations; in Australia and abroad.
Intelligence Managers lead and manage the delivery of intelligence capabilities to inform AFP tactical, operational and strategic direction. Intelligence Managers must possess strong leadership and people management skills, as well as a sound understanding of intelligence practice, processes, skillsets and framework or covert collection practices, legislation, policy and practice.
You will work under the strategic direction of Intelligence Operations Executive Team and will be responsible for the leadership and management of a number of teams to deliver outcomes. You require in depth knowledge and understanding of the AFP business and the impact of roles and functions undertaken in relation to the organisation's reputation to effectively manage operations.
Consistent with the AFP values, AFP leadership philosophy, organisational reform agendas, AFP corporate business plans and your Performance Development Agreement, the expectation is that you will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

Essential Requirements
A Negative Vetting 2 security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Proven leadership-experience including an ability to build and support high performing teams.
Demonstrated high level of integrity and accountability, and ability to work in a high security environment.
Demonstrated ability to lead personnel and develop productive working relationships.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal and external partners.
Technical knowledge and skills (applicable to the role).
Desirable Requirements
The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
A PV Security clearance or ability to obtain one.
Experience in leading intelligence professionals.
Additional Information
These roles are located in Canberra, ACT and successful applicants are expected to be based in Canberra.
Interviews are expected to occur in February 2025.
This role attracts a composite allowance in recognition of expanded working hours, normal patterns of attendance and shift patterns (such as afternoon shifts, weekends and Designated Public Holidays) that are required under the Operations working pattern. In accordance with the AFP Enterprise Agreement 2017-2020, an employee who is required to work in accordance with the Operations working pattern will receive a Core Composite of 22% in addition to their base salary, which will count as salary for superannuation. The Commissioner has the authority to remove a composite from a role.
