**About - Department of Medical Education**

Reporting to the Head of Department, Department of Medical Education in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, the Northern Clinical School is responsible for all student affairs such as rostering, teaching arrangements, examinations and assisting and counselling students as required.

The MD was launched in 2011 as the first Australian medical course at masters level, the Melbourne MD created a new benchmark in 21st century medical education. Ten years later, it was time to take the educational lead once again by introducing our redesigned MD course, offering unprecedented levels of flexibility to those beginning their medical career.

**About the Role**
The Teaching Specialist is expected to further the role of the University within the hospital and will be responsible for the organisation and implementation of the clinical teaching program, for supporting examinations, for provision pastoral care and for supervisory duties for medical students during their clinical rotations at Northern Health. The incumbent will be expected to work in a team of motivated and enthusiastic academic and professional staff who are committed to the development and education of medical students

Responsibilities include:

- Supporting the organization, implementation, and delivery of MD clinical placement program
- Undertaking bedside teaching of the Northern Clinical School students
- Contributing to the organisation and supervision of student examinations
- Monitoring and actively contributing to the quality efficiency and responsiveness on all aspects of the MD program to promote continuous quality improvement (evaluation and research)

**About You**
You possess highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to engage students and work effectively with a range of staff from both the university and the hospital. You have a demonstrated understanding of the needs of medical students of all backgrounds, and ability and willingness to counsel students as required.

You will also have:

- A medical degree including specialist qualifications registrable in the state of Victoria
- Good working knowledge of relevant departments within Northern Health such as Surgery, Medicine, Emergency
- Demonstrated experience in developing effective working relationships with all levels of medical practitioners and other health professionals in hospitals and the community
- Commitment to and record of excellence in medical education in a clinical setting
- A commitment to furthering the role of the University within Northern Health
- To ensure the University continues to provide a safe environment for everyone, this position requires the incumbent to hold a current and valid Working with Children Check._
