Farm Assistant

**Position Information**:
The NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world-class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non-government schools. **About the Role**

To be successful in the role you will need to have good planning and prioritising skills and good communication skills to work effectively with others.

You will perform a range of tasks in relation to the preparation and maintenance of a Departmental agricultural plot at a secondary or central school that offers agriculture on its curriculum. The role assists with: crop production and disposal; machinery operation; maintenance of machinery, tools and equipment; care and supervision of livestock; receipt and storage of supplies; and general farm maintenance. This may also include the preparation of equipment/livestock/plants for teaching lessons.

**Special Notes**:
The hours will be: Mon - Fri 4 hours per day and 3 hours Sat mornings. Saturday mornings will consist mainly of ensuring all livestock is fed and watered. It may also include moving livestock to safer pastures in extreme weather events.

**Additional School Information (Optional)**
The Dapto High Agricultural plot consists of an enclosed chicken area including incubators, 2 x agriculture sheds, a cattle yard with crush, a planting area including raised beds, pastures which are used for the sheep and beef cattle that are farmed at the school. An orchard plot is also being constructed. The school also has a Kubota tractor and various trailers which need to be maintained. The pastures are surrounded by electric fencing which also needs to be maintained.
