**Job Description**:
The Communications Manager is responsible for leading the Australian internal and external communications strategy and execution. The role provides strategic and daily tactical advice to the Chief Operations Officer, VP External Affairs and the Australian Leadership Team on communication activities, ensuring alignment with Albemarle’s Australian business priorities, global positioning and core values.
The Communications Manager will manage media inquiries and deliver proactive external communications including via the use of social media platforms with the objective of enhancing and protecting our reputation and Brand.
The Communications Manager will also play a critical role in supporting Australian Leadership Team members with internal communications to support objectives and engagement within specific teams as well as overall communications plans to enhance the “One Albemarle” philosophy within Australia.
This role works collaboratively with global colleagues and local EA colleagues to support Brand management and development.
Key Responsibilities
- Leads effective external reactive and proactive media management to enhance Albemarle’s business objectives in Australia and promote and protect Brand.
- Leads effective internal communications and partners with Australian Leadership team members to design and implement regular and campaign coms to facilitate improved information flow within the organization.
- In collaboration with global communications, shapes the organizations’ narrative in Australia and ensures consistent and appropriate key messaging.
- Manage relationships and interactions with media, government media advisers and contractor communications team members as required.
- Drive development of Australian on-line presence on Albemarle website and continued creation of content including photographic, videographic content.
- Support issues management by developing public positions, key messages, fact sheets and FAQ’s to support external communications.
- Participate in Special Event Management Process as communications specialist
- Liaise regularly with US counterparts to ensure awareness and alignment between Australia and functional leadership
- Directs workflow for communications team members, oversights performance and professional development.
Work Experience / Technical Skill Requirements
- 10+ years’ experience working in a communications/public relations role ideally within a large corporate organization.
- Proven experience dealing with all forms of media including issues management.
- Extensive experience in creating proactive content to deliver strategic organizational objectives.
- Proven experience creating collateral (fact sheets, Q&A, public positions etc.) to support community and external activities.
- Experience leading a team and proven ability to motivate team members and enhance collaboration between multiple functional areas.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to think strategically, respond quickly, develop plans and approaches to build all areas of communications responding to the dynamic need of the business.
- Experience managing contracts to deliver scope on time and budget.
- Experience working in the resources/mining industry in Australia would be well regarded.
Education / Qualification Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in relevant discipline including Communication, Public Relations or Marketing
- Knowledge or qualification in online platform and software management
