The Role
An opportunity has become available for a Peer Support Worker (Homeless Health Outreach Team - Identified) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 10 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.
You will
- Form effective and empathetic peer relationships with people accessing the Homeless Health Outreach Team
- Provide peer support, practical assistance, education, information and referrals to consumers, to support their personal recovery journey
- Support consumers to develop individual recovery plans which incorporate their self-identified recovery goals, aspirations and strengths
- Consistently display commitment, integrity and diligence in all work and decisions, ensuring consumers and others are treated fairly and with mutual respect and understanding

About you

**To be successful in this position you will require**:

- Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be a person who identifies as a carer, having a personal lived/living experience of caring for a person with mental health issues who has used/is using mental health services
- Previous experience working within a public mental health service or the community sector
- Certificate IV Mental Health Peer Work or working towards, is highly desirable
- It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against COVID-19. This includes having the COVID-19 booster shot (3rd vaccination) when eligible

Salary
- Permanent full time
- Base salary ranging from $68 740 - $76 828 per annum

About Us
The Homeless Health Outreach Team provides services to people who are chronically homeless with complex needs and diverse value systems, and do not access standard health services. While there is a strong focus on mental health and drug and alcohol issues, general health issues will be within the scope of this team. This team will work very closely with the non-government services and other local and state government services that are involved in providing services to this clientele. The Homeless Health Outreach Team is a seven day per week extended hours service. Based in Southport.
