**Position Information**:
Wollongong West Public School is a vibrant and dynamic primary school that has served the West Wollongong community for over 95 years. Our school has 245 students enrolled. Our school celebrates and values our diverse community, with 13% of students being Aboriginal and 49% of students learning English as an Additional Language/Dialect.
Our school fosters a culture of inclusivity with students with diverse learning needs celebrated in all classes, including our four support classes catering for children with emotional disturbance and autism. All children are known, valued and cared for at Wollongong West Public School.
Our localised wellbeing framework supports a positive, therapeutic and trauma informed learning environment where all children are supported to connect, succeed and thrive. Strong relationships between all community members are central to our school. Our school is supported by an active and engaged P&C.
Students are engaged in personalised learning experiences to support each child's growth and achievement. Teachers employ an enquiring mind as they learn and grow as collaborative educators through evidenced based teaching practices developed through high quality professional learning experiences supported by our strong instructional leadership program. Student achievement of literacy and numeracy outcomes is a priority for our school, while also highly valuing our strong educational programs across all key learning areas. Extra-curricular activities offered at our school include band, choir, dance troupes, sporting gala days and public speaking competitions.
**Selection Criteria**:
In addition to the general selection criteria,
Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with a disability such as autism, emotional disturbance, learning difficulties and complex mental health needs.
Demonstrated ability to maintain positive and trusting relationships with students, families, staff, external agencies and the wider community.
Demonstrated ability to effectively balance the dual roles of an exemplary classroom teacher and the complex responsibilities of an Assistant Principal.
Proven ability to work collaboratively within a leadership team to strategically plan, lead and evaluate whole school initiatives to support the implementation of the School Excellence Plan.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
