Cross-dock Worker

Heidelberg West, Australia Anonymous Wine Freight Pty Ltd Full time

We are a small wine warehousing and freight business seeking a casual employee for cross dock supervising and pick and pack.

Based in Heidelberg West you will arrive at 7am to assist with unloading the truck that has arrived from interstate. This entails manual handling of wine boxes up to 16kg, scanning their labels and walking them to zoned pallets ready for dispatch.

Once the truck is unloaded you will assist drivers with loading their vans and locating boxes until all drivers are on the road. You will be managing the ‘hustle’ - in our business time is money but the drivers earn more the slower they go so your job is to make sure they get packed and out the door as efficiently as possible. This is not a direction to rush - wine needs to be carefully handled and vans need to be loaded to avoid any movement of the load.

Once the drivers are on the road, you will print off orders for picking and packing from the warehouse. We have a very small warehouse with only three customers so you can expect to pick approximately 10 orders most days.

Despite the simplicity of what we do, we require laser-like attention to detail. The wine is not barcoded for picking so you have to look at the labels and make no assumptions. We often have the same wine from multiple different vintages and you have to be able to tell them apart. We can teach you all about the wine (you don’t need prior experience or knowledge of wine) but attention to detail and a desire to do things properly - those things you need to bring to this role.

We anticipate approximately 5 hours work per day but can be flexible around other commitments as negotiated. The 7am start is not required on a Monday so start time for Monday can be negotiated.

*you have attention to detail

*you love to follow process

*you can communicate with people / build rapport / direct and instruct

*you are not afraid of physical hard work - lifting, bending, repetitive movements

*you take pride in what you do

You can expect:
*a friendly and supportive work environment

*detailed on-the-job training and ongoing guidance

Pay: From $31.23 per hour

Expected hours: 25 - 35 per week

Schedule:
