**The Opportunity**
The primary purpose of the Wingecarribee Out of School Hours Child Care Assistants role is to work with other members of the childcare team to provide high quality care which is responsive to school age children whose parents or guardians need to be absent for the purposes of work, employment seeking, studying or respite. The position encompasses the Out of School Care environment, inclusive of Before School Care, After School Care and Vacation Care.
The aim of the service and each staff member is to provide positive experiences and routines which encourage
opportunities for children that promote their individual interests, their independence and self-help skills and which foster self-expression and self-esteem by the provision of a balanced program.
The Outside School Hours Assistant works in conjunction with other team members to provide a safe and secure environment which fosters open, but professionally appropriate, communication between families, school and the local community.
The Out of School Hours Permanent Part Time Assistant must be willing and capable of assuming the role of Responsible Person in day-to-day charge, as required (Under the Education and Care Services Regulations).
The Out of School Hours Casual Assistant may be asked to assume the role of Responsible Person in day-to-day charge, dependent on their experience and relevant qualifications, as required under the National Regulations.

**Key Responsibilities**
1. Where applicable and/or required - Take on the duties of the Responsible Person in day to day charge.

2. Actively participate and contribute to the operation and delivery of Wingecarribee Out of School Hours Service

within the relevant legislative and Service Policy and Procedure, in consultation with the Nominated Supervisor.

3. Be available to work at the Out of School Hours Service (located at Mittagong Public School)
- Daily from 2.45pm-6.15pm on school days (After School Care) as per letter of offer.
- As negotiated and/or as required from 6.30am - 9.00am on school days (Before School Care)
- During vacation care a minimum of permanent part-time hours and additional hours as applicable.

4. Negotiate Annual Leave outside of school holiday periods, except at the end of Term 4 of the School Year when the Service closes prior to reopening for Vacation Care in January.

5. Work with the management team in the development of Service “Quality Improvement Plans” as per legislative

requirements and implement them accordingly.

6. Develop and maintain professional relationships with internal and external customers to ensure service excellence.

7. Assess the workplace ensuring the risk of injury to is minimised or removed, ensure risk planning is implemented, followed and maintained. Where required take immediate action to make safe a workplace and institute immediate compliance action where the actions of educators and or staff compromise the principles of safe work principles or the Children’s Services Regulations

**Essential Criteria**
1. Appropriate formal qualifications in a childcare and/or experience in working with children in 5 to 12 years range in a formal setting.

3. Demonstrated understanding of the day to day running of an active children’s program and have the ability to assist in the programming for 5-12-year olds.

4. Demonstrated experience in customer service standards to align organisational service delivery with customer

expectations.

5. Demonstrated team work experience.

6. Ability to satisfy legislative background and probity checks including a current NSW Working with Children Check and clearance.

7. Permanent Part Time staff and applicable casual staff: Meet current legislative requirements required to perform the role of Responsible Person including:

- Current First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis Certification.
- A certificate of attainment in an “approved” Child Protection course and have an understanding of the roles and responsibilities in relation to Child Protection in an Education and Care setting.
